Made us stronger. Have you ever truly pondered that? I remember reading in a Great Book once a ditty that went something like this:
And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in distresses, in persecutions, in difficulties, in behalf of Christ; for when I am weak, then I am strong.
2 Corinthians 12:9-11 (NASB)
Not only is the result of weakness eventual strength, but also something else. There is a mark left upon us all from every ordeal we encounter. These scars are sometimes visible, while some remain hidden from all but Him. These scars? They tend to tell our story, for they’re proof of not only our history but the adage, that what doesn’t kill us made us stronger.
I ran across a song the other day that seemed to tap into this notion… Tove Lo – Scars:
“Scars we carry. Carry with memories, memories burned by the dark.” Does that describe a wound that left a memory? Was that experience pleasant?
“…The pain got us falling apart. Try to see clearly.” Sounds like a typical happenstance for each of us. We get hurt, but we refocus on things more important. Him.
“Now let the healing start. …We keep it in our hearts. We’re like a thousand suns.” Through the Creator, we find our peace and our healing. He is Light – the antithesis of darkness.
“Ooh, yeah, every day, step by step, we dare to love again. And if we lose our grip, meet you at the end.” We overcome our burdens through His guidance and His love. And when we eventually end her, and we ALL will end in this place, we meet together in the afterlife He’s offered us. …But if we only say yes to the Lord.
This is a pretty simple song, but I enjoyed listening to it. It seemed to embody the simple and important things we naturally tend to make unnecessarily complex. Don’t let the pain tear you apart. Embrace the healing. Give it over to Him and embrace your weakness in trade for the strength and solcae only He provides.
I humbly submit you become Salt & Light my friends, and I’ll meet you at the end.
